Amaç: Araştırma, astımlı bireylerin sağlık okuryazarlık düzeylerini, astım kontrolünü belirlemek, ayrıca sağlık okuryazarlığı ve astım kontrolü arasındaki ilişkiyi değerlendirmek amacı ile yapılmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma, Analitik-kesitsel olarak 01 Kasım 2019-30 Nisan 2020 tarihleri arasında, Aydın Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Hastanesi Göğüs Hastalıkları polikliniklere başvuran, 18 yaş üzeri, okuryazar, araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden ve araştırma kriterlerine uyan 300 astımlı birey oluşturmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında; “Astımlı Birey Tanıtıcı Bilgi Formu”, “Astım Kontrol Testi (AKT)” ve “Avrupa Sağlık Okuryazarlığı Ölçeği Türkçe Uyarlaması (ASOY-TR)” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde; R vers.
Objective: The research was conducted to determine the health literacy levels and asthma
control of individuals with asthma and also to evaluate the relationship between health
literacy and asthma control.
Material and Methods: The research consisted of 300 asthmatic individuals over 18 years of
age, literate, who accepted to participate in the study and met the research criteria, who
applied to the Aydın Adnan Menderes University Hospital Chest Diseases polyclinics
between 01 November 2019 and 30 April 2020, analytically-cross-sectionally. In the
collection of data; “Asthmatic Individual Information Form”, “Asthma Control Test (AKT)”
and “European Health Literacy Scale Turkish Adaptation (ASOY-TR)” were used. In the
analysis of data; vers. 2.15.3 program (R Core Team, 2013), Shapiro-Wilk, t test, One-way
analysis of variance, Bonferroni test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson
correlation analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient in determining the internal consistency levels
of the scales used.
Results: According to the asthma control test of the asthmatic individuals participating in the
study, 23.6% of the asthma control was found to be "complete and well controlled" and
76.4% of them "not under control". Considering the health literacy, the general index score
was (30.98±9.80), and it was determined that 60.6% of the asthmatic individuals were in the
"inadequate or problematic-limited" health literacy category. Considering the sub-indexes of
health literacy, it was determined that the mean scores of the Health Service (32.82±9.64),
Understanding Health Information (32.75±10.01) and Accessing Health Information
(31.07±10.67) indices were higher than the average score of general health literacy. It was
determined that the mean scores of the indices of Protection from Diseases 30.57±10.59,
x
Health Promotion (29.46±11.07), Evaluation of Health Knowledge (29.47±10.63) and
Application of Health Knowledge (30.80±9.86) were lower than the mean score of general
health literacy. A positive correlation was found between the asthma control test mean scores
and the health literacy mean scores of general and all sub-dimensions.
Conclusion: According to the asthma control test of the asthmatic individuals participating in
the study, it was determined that asthma control was "not under control" and when their
health literacy levels were examined, they were in the "inadequate or problematic-limited"
health literacy category and there was a significant positive correlation between health
literacy levels and asthma control.
