Aydın İli, Kemer Mahallesi'nde yer alan Tralleis Antik Kenti'nde, 2007 yılı çalışma
sezonunda, kentin batısında bulunan ve Batı Nekropolü olarak adlandırılan alanda, kazı
çalışmaları gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmalarda, iki katlı ve iki odalı dromoslu oda mezar,
taş sanduka, situla, amphora, urne, çatı kiremitli, basit toprak, pithos ve platform olmak
üzere toplam dokuz farklı tipte 39 mezar ortaya çıkarılmıştır.
Tralleis’te bugüne kadar kentte yapılan araştırma ve çalışmalarda, kentin tarihi yapısı,
coğrafi konumu ve sanatı konusunda önemli bilgilere ulaşılmıştır. Özellikle Batı
Nekropolü'nde iki katlı ve çok odalı, birden fazla gömünün yapıldığı ve buluntularıyla
dikkat çeken oda mezar ile farklı mezar tiplerinin belirlenmesi, kenti mezar mimarisi ve
nekropol buluntuları ile ön plana çıkarmıştır. Tralleis Batı Nekropolü mezarları ve
buluntuları geçen zaman içinde bazı değişimlere uğrasa da, bütünüyle incelendiğinde
Hellenistik, Roma İmparatorluk ve Geç Roma Dönem'i mezar mimarisi, ölü gömme
gelenekleri ve bölge sanatı konusunda önemli bilgi verir.
Çalışma kapsamımızın ilk bölümünde, Tralleis antik kentinin coğrafi yapısı, siyasi ve
araştırma tarihi kapsamlı biçimde değerlendirilmiştir. Ardından nekropol alanında tespit
edilen mezarların genel yapısına, mezar mimarisine, plan, teknik ve malzeme özelliklerine
değinilmiş, elde edilen bilgiler, Karia Bölgesi’nde bulunan diğer mezar ve buluntuları ile
karşılaştırılmıştır. Ayrıca bu mezarların içlerinde ele geçen mezar hediyeleri ile mezarların
kullanım süreçleri belirlenmiş ve tüm mezarlar kontekst olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Mezar
mimarisi dışında ele geçen buluntular, ayrı bir başlık altında, cinsleri ve formları
doğrultusunda sınıflandırılarak anlatılmıştır. Ayrıca gömülerin sosyo-ekonomik durumu
hakkında daha fazla bilgi edinmek için, Prof. Dr. Yaşar İşçan ve ekibi tarafından hazırlanan

antropoloji raporları, tez içinde değerlendirmeye alınmıştır. Son olarak, mezar ve ölü
hediyelerinin mezar sahipleri ile ilişkisi, ölü kültü ve Batı Nekropolü'nde görülen ritüeller
hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Mezar içlerinde ele geçen buluntuların değerlendirilmesinin
tamamlanmasının ardından, tezle bağlantılı kaynakçaya ulaşılmış, mevcut buluntular
numaralandırılmış, çizim ve fotoğraflanması yapılarak katalogları oluşturulmuştur. Katalog
düzenlenmesinde buluntuların tanımlanmasının dışında, benzer örneklerinden de
yararlanılarak karşılaştırmalar yapılmış, ele geçen buluntular stil, teknik ve form
özelliklerine bakılarak tarihlendirilmiştir. En son olarak da mezar tipleri ve buluntular ile
bağlantılı olarak harita, çizim, fotoğraf ve grafikleri oluşturulmuştur
Excavations were carried out in the ancient city of Tralleis, located in the Kemer
district of Aydin, during the 2007 excavations, in the area to the west of the city and calles
the Western Necropolis. During these studies, a total of 39 graves were unearthed. These
tomb types are of nine different types: two storey and two room chamber tomb with dromos,
stone cist tomb, situla tomb, amphora tomb, urn tomb, roof tiled tomb, simple earth tomb,
pithos tomb and platform tomb.
Tralleis, located in the Kemer district of Aydin province is one of the important
ancient cities of Caria Region. In the researches and studies carried out in the city to date,
important information has been obtained about the historical structure, geographical location
and art of the city. Especially in the two storey and two roomed region in the Western
Necropolis, the presence of this type of multü-rommede chamber tomb, which attracts
attention with finds, and the presence of different types of tombs make the ancient city of
Tralleis stand out with its tomb and necropolis architecture in the Caria Region. Although
the original architectural structures and finds of the Tralleis Western Necropolis tombs have
undergone some changes, the tombs and the finds found in them provide information on the
burial architecture, burial traditions and regional art of the Hellenistic, Roman and Late
Periods.
In the first part of our study, the political history, geography and research history of
ancient city of Tralleis were comprehensively evaluated. Then, the general structure of the
toms found in the necropolis area was mentioned, then the tomb architecture, plan, technical
and material features were explained and evaluated together with other comparison
examples found in the region. In addition, the tomb gifts found in these were determined,
and each tomb was evaluated as a context. The find unearthed in the toms werre explained
under a seperate heading, classified according to their types and forms, and then Prof. Dr.

anthropology reports prepared by Yaşar İşcan and his team were rearranged and evaluated.
Finally, information is given about the relationship of graves owners, the cult of the dead
and the rituals seen in Western Necropol. After the evaluation of the finds found in the
tombs was completed, a bibliography related to thesis was created, the finds were numbered
and their drawings and photographs were completed their catalogs were made. In addition to
identifying the finds in the catalog arrengement, comparisons were made by making use of
similar examples and finds were dated by looking at their style features. Finally, mamps,
tombs, find drawings, photographs ans graphics were create.
