II. Mahmud’un iktidarı Osmanlı Devleti’nin modernleşmesi açısından önemli bir
dönüm noktası olmuştur. 19. yüzyılda devletin merkezileşme yolunda ilk adımı, geleneksel
düzenin önemli öğesi olan yeniçeri ocağının kaldırılmasıyla atılmıştır. Jurnal Teşkilatı,
yenileşme çabalarının faaliyet gösterdiği bu dönemde kurulmuştur. Teşkilatın kurulduğu
yerlerde meydana gelen her türlü olayı, yaşanan gelişmeleri günlük olarak kaydetmek için
jurnal kâtipleri görevlendirilmiştir. Bu kâtipler, bulundukları sancak ve kazalara gelip giden
kişilerin isimleri ve eşkâl bilgileri ile nereye ne amaçla gelip gittikleri, bulundukları yerlerde
meydana gelen her türlü sosyal ve iktisadi olayları, doğan ve ölen kişilerin bilgileri içeren
demografik olayları, olağanüstü durumlar ile mahkemelerde görülen çeşitli davalar hakkında
bilgiyi bu defterlere kaydetmişlerdir. Kaydedilen bu bilgiler, haftalık ya da on beş günlük
periyodlar halinde sancak merkezine gönderilirken, buradan da ayda bir İstanbul’a
gönderilmiştir.
Bu arşiv defteri üzerinde durulmayan, oldukça az çalışmaya konu olan bir defter türü
olmuştur. Bu sebeple çalışmamızda öncelikle Jurnal Teşkilatı ve defterleri hakkında bilgiler
verilmiştir. Ardından Aydın Sancağında görevli jurnal kâtipleri tarafından kaydedilen Birgi
ve Tire jurnal defterleri ile Anadolu Jurnal Defteri I’de yer alan özetlemelerden Aydın ile
ilgili yer alan kayıtlar tespit edilerek 19. yüzyıl Aydın Sancağı’nın sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik
ve siyasi hayatına dair değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.
II. Mahmud’s rule was an important turning point in terms of the modernization of the
Ottoman Empire. In the nineteenth century, the first step towards centralization of the state
was taken with the abolition was established in this period when improvement efforts were
active jurnal clerks were assigned to record all kinds of events and developments occurring
in the places where the organization was established on a Daily basis. These clerks provide
information about the names and descriptions of the people who came to the sanjaks and
accident, where they will go for what purpose all kinds of social and economic event occurring
demographic events including the information of born and deceased people extraordinary
situations and various court cases they recorded in the registers. This recorded information
was sent to the starboard center in weekly or fifteen-day periods and from there it was sent to
Istanbul once a month.
This archive register has been a type of register that has not been focused on and has been the
subject of very little work. For this reason first of all information about the Jurnal
Organization and its registers was given in out study. Afterwards, Birgi and Tire jurnal
registers recorded by the jurnal clerks in Aydın Sandjak and the records related to Aydın from
the summaries in Anatolian Jurnal Register I were determined and evaluations were made
regarding the social, cultural, economic and political life of Aydın Sandjak in the 19th century
