İngilizce hazırlık sınıfı okuma metinlerinin eğitsel değerleri

Abstract

Araştırma, Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi İngilizce hazırlık sınıflarında kullanılmakta olan okuma metinlerinin eğitsel değerlerini saptamayı amaçlamıştır. Kullanılmakta olan okuma metinleri, gramer, anlama, görsellik, ilgi, yöntem ve konular gibi, bir metinde öne çıkan başlıklar açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmada, nicel yöntem kullanılarak var olan durum betimlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi, 2015–2016 öğretim yılı, güz ve bahar yarıyılı hazırlık sınıfı öğrencilerinden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada veri toplama amacı ile kullanılan likert tipi sorulardan oluşan anket, araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilerek, hazırlık sınıfına devam etmekte olan öğrenci ve yine aynı bölümde görev yapmakta olan öğretim elemanlarına uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca, öğretim elemanlarına açık uçlu sorular yöneltilerek frekans elde etme yolu ile çözümleme yapılmıştır. Ölçme aracı ile elde edilen öğrenci ve öğretim elemanlarının görüşleri, betimsel istatistik yöntemleriyle incelenmiş, bulgular frekans ve yüzdelerle ifade edilerek tablolaştırılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, okuma derslerinde kullanılan okuma metinlerinin ''gramer öğretimi, görsellik, ilgi, anlama, yöntem ve konu'' başlıklarının değerlendirilmesiyle ilgili olarak öğrenci ve öğretim elemanlarının benzer görüşlerinin yanı sıra farklı görüşlerde oldukları da görülmüştür. Ayrıca, okuma derslerinde kullanılan okuma metinlerinin amaca yönelik olmasının yanı sıra, okuma becerilerini geliştirmeye yönelik olmayan ve geliştirilmesi gereken noktaların bulunduğu da ortaya çıkmıştır.

this research, the educational values of the reading texts used in preparation classes in the School of Foreign Language at Adnan Menderes University were analyzed in the scope of the outstanding and necessary features of a text. The reading texts were analyzed through some outstanding and important dimensions of a valuable text, which are grammar, understanding, visuality, methodology, interest and topic. The case about the reading texts was described using the quantitative method. The sample of the research consists of the preparation class students of Fall/Spring Terms in 2015-2016 Academic Year. The instrument for collecting data, a questionnaire composed of likert questions, was developed by the researcher, and implemented to the preparation class students and the instructors working in the same department. Besides, open-ended questions were asked to the instructors, and the situation was analyzed through frequencies. The views of the students and instructors were analyzed with descriptive statistical techniques, and the findings were tabulated using frequencies and percentages. At the end of the research, it was observed that the students and instructors have both similar and different opinions about the evaluation of the concepts in the texts used in preparation class, which are grammar, understanding, visuality, methodology, interest and topic. Moreover, it was also found that although the reading texts are goal-oriented, there are also some points needed to be improved and developed.
