Bu araştırmanın temel amacı devlet ortaöğretim okullarında dokuzuncu sınıf ingilizce ders kitabı olarak kullanılan Power Up 9 ders kitabı, öğrenci çalışma kitabı ve öğretmen kılavuz kitabının Ortaöğretim dokuzuncu sınıf ingilizce öğretim programına uygunluğunun incelenmesidir. Çalışma, nitel araştırma yöntemi ile yürütülmüş ve görüşme ve doküman analizi teknikleriyle desenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu maksimum çeşitlilik örneklemesi yapılarak belirlenmiş 15 dokuzuncu sınıf ingilizce öğretmeni ile değişik üniversitelerde görev yapmakta olan 5 ingilizce öğretmenliği ve eğitim programları ve öğretim alan uzmanından oluşmaktadır. Veriler araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş yarı yapılandırılmış öğretmen görüşme formu ve uzman görüşme formu aracılığı ile elde edilmiştir. Bunlara ek olarak, araştırmacı tarafından Power Up 9 ders kitabı, çalışma kitabı ve öğretmen kılavuz kitabının doküman analizi yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerden elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları 9. sınıf ingilizce ders kitabının fiziksel özellikleri ve öğretim programının hedef boyutu açısından kısmen yeterli olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Ancak kitabın içerik, öğrenme öğretme süreçleri ve değerlendirme boyutları bakımından birçok açıdan yetersiz olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrenci çalışma kitabının genel anlamda ders kitabını destekleyici, eğlenceli ve ilgi çekici olduğu; ancak öğretmen kılavuz kitabının öğretmen için destekleyici ve yönlendirici olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Bunlara ek olarak, aynı kitabın farklı seviyelerdeki okullarda kullanılmasının, öğrencilerin dil yeterlilik düzeyindeki farklılıklardan dolayı uygulamada sorunlar oluşturduğu belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen bu sonuçlar ışığında, ders kitabı ve çalışma kitabının programa uygun olarak geliştirilmesi ve etkin bir kullanım sağlanması için sistematik olarak değerlendirilmesi ve öğretmen kılavuz kitabının alternatif yol ve fikirler içeren, öğretmen için bir rehber olacak şekilde tasarlanması gerektiği önerileri sunulmuştur
The main purpose of this study is to examine the compliance of Power Up 9 Course Book, Workbook and Teacher's Book with the 9th grade English curriculum, which is used in the ninth grade English course book in public secondary schools. The study was conducted with qualitative research method and designed with interview and document analysis techniques. The study group was determined by maximum variation sampling method and it consisted of 15 ninth grade English teachers, and five English language teaching and curriculum and instruction specialists who work at different universities. Data were collected through a semi-structured teacher interview form and an instructor interview form developed by the researcher. In addition to these, document analyses of the course book, workbook and teacher‟s book were carried out by the researcher. Content analysis method was utilized to analyze the data obtained from the interviews. Research results showed that, the course book was found partly sufficient in terms of its physical properties and the goals defined in the curriculum. However, it was found insufficient in many respects in terms of content, learning and teaching process and evaluation items of the curriculum. The study also revealed that the workbook in general supports the course book, is enjoyable to study and interesting; but the teacher‟s book does not provide support and guidance to the teacher. In addition, it was found that using the same course book in different types of schools causes problems in practice due to the differences in the language proficiency levels of the learners. In the light of these results, it is suggested that the course book and workbook be designed in compliance with the curriculum and be evaluated systematically for high efficiency in use, and the teacher‟s book be designed as a guide with alternative ways and ideas for the teachers.
