Genel olarak, İzmir’in
Türkiye turizminden aldığı pay % 4 civarındadır; bu nedenle İzmir’in turizm
Given its advantageous geographic location, the diversity of historical and
cultural resources, and its already existing sea based mass tourism, Izmir holds a
wide spectrum of tourism types. In addition, the fact that Izmir has not realized its
tourism potential as the third biggest city of Turkey, with a persistent background
in industry and trade, indicates an urgent and substantial need for tourism
investments. Izmir holds a low market share and competitive advantage when
compared to tourism destinations in Turkey and in the world. Izmir lags behind in
both tourism supply and demand when compared to destinations in Turkey. On
general account, Izmir holds only 4% of the Turkish tourism market, which points
out to the need for a comprehensive tourism policy in order to translate its
tourism potential into an instrument of development and prosperity.
