Echinococcosis dünya çapında önemli helmint hastalıklarından biri olup zoonoz bir enfeksiyondur. E. granulosus başta olmak üzere diğer Echinococcus türleri de insanlarda ve hayvanlarda hastalık yaparlar ve büyük ekonomik kayıplara sebep olurlar. Yapılan çalışmada Aydın ve yöresindeki E. granulosus yaygınlığını belirlemek amacı ile yapılmıştır. Çalışmada kullanılacak materyal, Aydın ve yöresinde bulunan, 6 aydan büyük, sahipli 100 köpekten taze ve temiz olmak koşuluyla yerden toplanmıştır. Örnekler Aydın merkez ve 5 ilçe (Söke, Koçarlı, Çine, Bozdoğan, Kuyucak) ile birlikte 6 bölge olmak üzere toplam 13 köyden alınmıştır. Dışkı örneği alınan köpeklerin 25'i dişi, 75'i erkek olup yaşları 6 ay-16 yaş aralığındadır. Köpeklerdeki E. granulosus varlığı PCR yöntemiyle araştırılmış ve 1 hayvanda (%1) enfeksiyona rastlanmıştır. Moleküler teknikler uygulamadan önce dışkılar makroskopik olarak ve tuzlu su flotasyon yöntemiyle incelenmiş ve 11'inde (%11) Toxocara canis, 3'ünde (%3) Ancylostoma caninum, 2'sinde (%2) Taenia spp., ve 1'inde (%1) Capillaria spp. yumurtalarına rastlanılmıştır. Toplam 100 hayvandan 1'inde E. granulosus varlığı Türkiye'nin diğer bölgelerinde yapılan çalışmaların çoğuna göre düşük bulunmuştur. Gerek makroskopik gerekse mikroskobik bakıda herhangi bir parazitolojik oluşuma rastlanmayan dışkıda E. granulosus tespit edilmesi hayvan sahipleri, veteriner hekimler ve parazitoloji laboratuvarı çalışanları için köpek dışkılarının her zaman potansiyel tehlike oluşturduğu gerçeğinin altını çizmektedir.
Echinococcosis is one of worldwide zoonotic diseases. E. granulosus and the other Echinococcus species cause diseases in human and animals leading to huge economical losses. In this study, it was aimed to determine prevalence of E. granulosus in Aydın district. Clean and fresh feces samples at ground were collected from owned dogs (n=100; 25 female, 75 male) with the range of 6-16 months old. These faces samples were obtained at 13 villages from five different locations (Center, Söke, Çine, Bozdoğan, Kuyucak) of Aydın district. Prevalence of E. granulosus was investigated with PCR, and presence of this disease was determined in only one dog (%1; 1/100). Prior to applications of molecular techniques, feces samples were investigated with macroscopic and flotation methods, and these procedures reveal the presence of Toxocara canis (%11), Ancylostoma caninum (%3), Taenia spp. (%2) and Capillaria spp. (%1) eggs. Current prevalence (%1) of E. granulosus in this study is lower than the other studies conducted at different parts of Turkey. Determination of E. granulosus with PCR in feces without determining any parasites with neither macroscopical nor microscopical examinations could indicate the potential risk of dog feces for animal owners, veterinarians and parasitology laboratory technicians.
