Abstract: | Çalışma Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Bahçe Bitkileri
This research was conducted for the aim of effects on yield and quality of plant organic wastes in strawberry growing at the experimental field of the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Adnan Menderes University between 2005 and 2006 planned as complementary studies. Trials were established in completely randomized block design with four replicates. In the study, `Sweet Charlie? strawberry cultivar was used as a plant material. Cruciferae vegetable crops pods (CK), broad bean pods (BK), maize plant?s chopped above ground parts (MS), jerusalem artichoke plant?s chopped above ground parts (YE), and wheat straw(S) were used as plant organic wastes. The plant organic wastes were mixed into the soil on 10 November 2004. In the first year, seedlings were planted on 04 January 2005. In the second year, the seedlings were planted on 10 October 2005. According to the decompozition of them in the soil, the plant organic wastes were differently affected the yield and quality in strawberry. As the shortest biodegredation process was in the BK treatment which demonstrated higher performance than the other treatments, this treatment showed the most positive effect by means of yield and quality values. Although YE treatment obtained relatively better results following the BK treatment than control, this treatment could not catch as high performance as of the BK treatment. All wastes except control were lately decompozed due to the lack of nitrogen content within the tissues and fell behind of control. Among the wastes, the S treatment was not decomposed during the experiment due to the slowest decompozition speed. In the course of this two-year experiment, the S treatment was not add any positive effect. In the study, in the light of the yield and quality observations, such that yield, total fruit number, yield per plant, time passed for the first flowering, time passed for the 50% flowering, time passed for the first fruit set, time passed for 50% fruit set, plant growth speed, fruit width, fruit length, TSS, pH, TA, fruit surface color, and taste analysis, BK treatment gave the most satisfactory results. It was drawn a conclusion that these results were the most efficaciously related to the plant organic wastes decompozed in the soil and the time passed for them to be beneficial. |
