Adolescence, the most stringent life period including enormous exchanges, starts with puberty and continues up to the adulthood. Due to the incipient secretion of hormones, the mood of adolescents is quite labile. Having been expecting acceptance from his or her environment, the adolescent cannot comprehend the rules which s/he finds rigid and stereotyped, and experiences adaptation problems with his/her environment. This situation could make them fragile, angry, and even aggressive. Anger is an emotion which, like other emotions, affects emotionally, cognitively and physiologically several systems. Anger is known as a negative emotion, but it is not dysfunctional, instead it is universal. Some adolescents may experience anger control problems in some circumstances which could lead to violent behavior. Therefore, school nurse should give information to adolescents about anger control, which has cognitive, communicational, behavioral, and emotional aspects, and should undertake interventional practices in this respect. This article explains the school nurse's role in anger, anger control and management of anger. |
