Abstract: | Bu çalışma ile; Türkiye'deki pazarlama uygulamalarında karşılaşılan etiksel sorunların genel bir çerçevesinin çizilmesi ve pazarlama yöneticilerinin mesleki etik düzeylerinin tüketici perspektifiyle değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. The aims of this study are to provide a general framework of ethical problems emerged in marketing practices, and to assess the level of professional ethics of marketing managers from the consumer's perspective. To this aim, the marketing practices generating ethical discussions are examined in depth on the basis of marketing mix elements, which represent the four main domains of the decisions of a marketing manager. In the case study, interviews with the managers of consumer rights associations operating in Turkey are carried out and analyzed with the supporting documents provided by the associations regarding their activities and statistics of consumer complaints. This study reveals that not only a large number of unethical marketing practices do exist, but also consumer rights are widely violated in Turkey. It is concluded that the special conditions of Turkey, such as the low level of consumer consciousness and the feeble supervision and enforcement mechanisms, provide a suitable ground on which marketing managers can act unethically. This study reveals that, in general, the managers have high ethical perceptions, but they behave differently. This means that the professional ethics of marketing managers are low. |
